There seem to be a lack of quality.. or whatever it is that makes a song, a song.. in modern songs.. most of them.. Some almost sound good, but just doesn't have that quality it lacks compared to the REAL songs from you-know-when. Does anybody get what I mean? If you listen to a modern song, it doesn't feel .. or sound complete. To me, at least. What d'yall think? Okay, narrowing it down. Take this, for instance, there's a song called "Unwritten" I like the catchy guitar riff hook, but then there's a twist in there that just doesn't sound 'right'.. And if you listen to American Idol stuff.. :/ just doesn't sound right. *puff* What's wrong with these modern artists? Or is it really the music industry all going into it for the money? /rant\.. Or am I just comparing the good oldies songs with mediocre music? What's a good modern band that has that magic when you hear their songs? I'm willing to try out to be a musician to see if I can at least bring quality in.

Nope! You are completely right! There are a few bands worth it these days, but... The problem is, as you said, the record companies only sing bands if they think all the little kids will like it. It's the reason that Hanna Montana and the like are big right now. Its the reason why Backstreet Boys, Nsync, and all those other fad bot bands were big in the day. The man difference between today and the past is that the bands back in the day wrote music to write music. To be good musicians and write good lyrics. Now, all they want is to be singers, they dont write their own music and its all about dancers and choreography. Which, dont get me wrong, can be entertaining, but it's lost a soul. Anyway, Im rambling now.

Ok, glad to have it made clear to me. Seems like those fads have been over empowering the media loads as time progresses. And it makes me sick to the stomach sometimes to see some of the modern-day artists covering the good ol' tunes.. of yesterdays.. Who wudda thunk there'd be a Grey Album.. I just don't wanna be eaten up or sucked into these fads cuz I know The Beatles are the best.. and I don't think I'd ever get tired of the good music. It just seems hopeless sometimes to see more younger people getting into these soulless music and seeing musicians turn over their labels to state that they're all about the money, and not the music Well, I dunno.. Here's a Frank Zappa interview about the falling of the Music INdustry. >.> www.maniacworld.com/Zappa-explains-the-decline-of-music.html

Yeah, I'm not really trying pick on it, but it was a song I was listening to at the moment, cuz I like the message in it, too.. and the guitar hook is just so catchy. So that's 1 modernish song I'd be listening to. Natasha does have a soulful voice but then it's just too modern to me, I guess. Yeh, there are some nice songs with meaningful messages and nice voices, but it just doesn't feel complete. I might give a listen to those. And there's a Black Eyed Peas song with a meaningful message about today's world, :/ but love/peace songs just don't sound too good as as a rap/hop song. "Where is the love?" Well I'm not sure. Maybe I just have to get used to it? I'm not really trying to pick on it, either. But if I turn on a modern day music radio right now, I'd be sure to get tired of the songs after a few listens. Do any of you look at the Billboard Hot 100? I don't cuz I know all there would be on top is $hit. And to think, The Beatles even used to be on it. From Wiki: "During the week of April 4, 1964 The Beatles occupied the first five slots of the Billboard Hot 100, #1 - "Can't Buy Me Love," #2 - "Twist and Shout," #3 - "She Loves You," #4 - "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and #5 - "Please Please Me," the only group in rock and roll history to achieve this feat." I'm not even gonna go into rap, tho ~some I like. Maybe I'm just not used to 'change' .. lol and how weird it would be is that I'm one that's supposed to be influenced by MTV and new Pop/Rap/Hip-Hop/R&B songs and videos on it.

I agree....I cannot stand modern music these days. At work they play that stuff and well it gives me a headache. My heart only wants to hear George and the Beatles...that's it. ;D

I think the commerce is ejecting high quality music. Mass media feeding us with this ugly stupid ''music'' and ordinary people eat this without even thinking what they are listening to.

I really hate most music today, especially the trash my generation listens to. I hold no respect for anyone I know who does. I'm sixteen, and all the modern music you hear just makes me angry. My friends are the same way - so it's not the whole generation, thank God. I think the only modern music I listen to religiously are Jason Mraz and Regina Spektor, and they're not exactly run-of-the-mill artists. They're really funky and odd and fantastic. Music died with the Beatles, in my opinion - at least for my generation. The only decent artists after the boys get barely any attention from young people. Bob Marley, Don McLean, Regina Spektor, Paul McCartney (after the Beatles), Keane, The Kinks (though they weren't really after the fab four), etc. I agree with everyone above. It doesn't take talent to get famous now, especially for music. And most people who have loads of talent aren't recognized because they don't fit the bill of popular $hitty music. Money has taken over the soul and love and beauty in music. Sorry, not taken over - beaten, stomped upon, shredded, whipped and tossed into the fire.
